Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap is a simple step that can save you time and money

Shrink wrap is used to enclose boats for protection from the elements, both when they are stored and when they are in transit. Shrink-wrap provides a tight, smooth, heat-sealed surface secured around your boat which will prevent water from pooling and protect your boats gel-coat finish from chafing that occurs from boats covered by tarps and canvas. This cost-effective step helps prevent dirt, debris, snow and uninvited guests from entering your boat. Nearly every boat manufacturer transports their boats in shrink wrap in order to help ensure a pristine vessel upon delivery.

There are some factors to consider when shrink wrapping your vessel. First, a boat traveling at highway speeds into a headwind is experiencing hurricane-force winds! If your shrink wrap is done poorly it's likely to come off or cause damage to your vessel.* Another issue to consider is chaffing. While this is usually not an issue for gel-coat, you should not apply shrink wrap to a painted hull.

If you are not an expert at applying shrink wrap, we suggest you hire a professional for this all-important part of the yacht transportation process.
